About The Position

The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, and the Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) of the University Health Network (UHN) are seeking to recruit an academic physical medicine & rehabilitation (PM&R) physician/physiatrist with advanced training in cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation. The successful candidate should be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the University of Toronto as a Clinician in Quality and Innovation at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The successful candidate will spend time at the UHN Cardiovascular Rehabilitation and Prevention Program. It is expected that the position will be 70% clinical and 30% related to Quality Improvement and Innovation, teaching and/or administrative duties. The expected start date is July 1, 2026, or as mutually agreed upon. The successful applicant will have completed an advanced training program in cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation (at least 24 months of fellowship training at a tertiary care centre) in addition to their adult PM&R training. The successful candidate will have expertise in cardiopulmonary testing, exercise prescription, primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases, and comprehensive cardiovascular rehabilitation involving an interdisciplinary allied health team. Additional expertise would include: 1. Experience with the management of rehabilitation of persons with complex cardiovascular and respiratory diseases; 2. Expertise in assessment and management of musculoskeletal, neuromotor and pain issues affecting participation in cardiac rehab; 3. extensive clinical experience facilitating in-person and virtual rehabilitation among the following patient populations in the outpatient and inpatient settings: post-surgical, trauma, amputee; stroke, brain and spinal cord injury; sports-related injuries, and people with history of critical care admission; 4. Formal training (e.g. certificate program or degree) in quality improvement in healthcare; 5. Formal training (e.g. certificate program or degree) in pulmonary/respiratory rehabilitation; 6. Experience in teaching adult clinical anatomy and/or physiology in rehabilitation sciences (Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology). The successful candidate will participate in the development and delivery of educational programs for medical trainees and interprofessional education in the UHN Cardiovascular Rehabilitation and Prevention Program and the University of Toronto. The candidate will also oversee medical rotations for undergraduate and postgraduate trainees as well as clinical fellows. Responsibilities will also include providing clinical care in the outpatient settings, teaching, and participation in other scholarly activities. The successful candidate will report to the Medical Director of UHN Cardiovascular Rehabilitation and Prevention Program. All candidates must be able to function proficiently in English and hold an MD degree or equivalent and should have, or be eligible for, certification in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). Compensation will depend on the amount of clinical work performed (estimated based on fee for service billing) and will be in the usual range for an experienced physiatrist in the Province of Ontario at approximately $200,000-250,000 per year and be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Additional sources of income from Alternate Funding Plans (AFPs) and merit awards from the Department of Medicine may be available. The Cardiovascular Rehabilitation and Prevention Program was founded in 1968 by Dr. Terry Kavanagh and was the first institution in the world that exclusively focused on providing rehabilitation for individuals who had experienced a cardiac event. The UHN Cardiovascular Rehabilitation and Prevention Program continues to be a world leader in clinical care, research and education in prevention and rehabilitation for patients with heart disease or at risk of developing cardiac conditions. Requirements

  • MD degree or equivalent
