The Assistant Operations Manager will oversee daily operations to ensure operational departments are proactively monitoring and providing solutions for headways, on-time performance, and missed service. This role is responsible for ensuring all safety procedures and policies are followed, coordinating special events and extra service needs, and responding to accidents, incidents, and potential disruptions to service. The Assistant Operations Manager will also assist the Operations Manager in implementing strategies to enhance on-time performance and new service enhancements. This position actively manages the performance, scheduling, and duties of the operations team, handles complaints concerning supervisors, and documents appropriate disciplinary procedures. Additionally, they will establish good working relations with support departments, Union officials, RTC employees, customers, and the community, while handling confidential employee matters and establishing professional relationships with operators and supervisors. The role includes conducting operational training for newly assigned supervisors, investigating and handling operator and supervisor counseling, discipline administration, and employment separation, attending unemployment hearings, and updating reports as assigned. The Assistant Operations Manager is accountable for driver group safety performance, ensuring adherence to statutory and regulatory safety policies, and fostering a just culture where employees are treated fairly. They will contribute to the safety culture through exemplary safety-oriented behaviors and improve safety by identifying and acting upon opportunities for individual driver retraining. The role also manages absenteeism, reviews event video for incident investigations, conducts field supervision of drivers, performs annual performance evaluations, and prepares driver scorecard results. Customer satisfaction is a key focus, with accountability for the driver group’s contribution to the overall customer experience and leading a customer-oriented culture. The Assistant Operations Manager will build positive relationships with drivers, lead an engaging culture, provide regular one-on-one coaching, and offer driver recognition and feedback. They will work with KTA resources to recruit, interview, onboard, train, and retain qualified drivers, and foster the Union relationship by monitoring CBA compliance, managing union relationships productively, and handling union grievance responses. The role addresses driver performance issues, communicates KTA instructions, acts as a liaison between drivers and other departments, and drives improvements in employee-related KPIs. Finally, the Assistant Operations Manager will be aware of the business plan and financial performance, manage absenteeism to control expenses, manage recruiting and training expenses by limiting driver turnover, and strive to improve the location’s financial performance sustainably.
