The Assistant Operations Manager will oversee daily operations to ensure operational departments are proactively monitoring and providing solutions as needed for headways, on time performance, and missed service. This role is responsible for responding to accidents, incidents, and potential disruptions to service, and assisting the Operations Manager in implementing strategies to enhance on time performance and new service enhancements. The Assistant Operations Manager will actively manage the performance, scheduling, and duties of the operations team, handle complaints concerning supervisors, and document appropriate disciplinary procedures. They will establish good working relations with support departments, Union officials, RTC employees, customers, and the community, while handling and not disclosing confidential and sensitive employee matters. This role also involves establishing a professional relationship with operators and supervisors, conducting operational training of newly assigned supervisors, investigating and handling operator and supervisor counseling, discipline administration, and employment separation, attending unemployment hearings, and updating all reports as assigned. The Assistant Operations Manager is accountable for driver group safety performance, ensuring all relevant statutory and regulatory safety policies are applied and adhered to, and that safety governance is in place. They will create and maintain a just culture, contribute to the safety culture through exemplary safety-oriented behaviors, and improve safety by identifying and acting upon opportunities for individual driver retraining. This role also manages absenteeism in the group, reviews event video for incident investigations, conducts field supervision, and performs annual performance evaluations. The Assistant Operations Manager is accountable for the driver group’s contribution to the overall customer experience and leads a customer-oriented culture. They will assist in the investigation of and response to customer comments, build a positive relationship with each driver, and lead an engaging culture. This role provides regular one-on-one coaching, driver recognition, and feedback. They work with applicable KTA resources to recruit, interview, onboard, train, and retain qualified drivers. The Assistant Operations Manager will foster the Union relationship, understand and monitor compliance to the ratified CBA, and manage union relationships productively. They will address driver performance issues, communicate KTA instructions and directives, and act as a liaison between drivers and other departments. This role drives improvement in the employee experience through improvements in employee related KPIs. Additionally, they are aware of the business plan and financial performance, manage absenteeism expenses, and strive to contribute to the overall improvement of the location’s financial performance.
