About The Position

In collaboration with the nurse manager, this role supervises staff and unit operations while also providing direct patient care. The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) ensures the delivery of safe and quality patient care by supervising the staff and maintaining professional nursing practice standards. This role involves high visibility to patients, families, and staff, particularly during off-shifts, and requires problem-solving abilities. The ANM performs various administrative, human resource, payroll, quality improvement, and unit coordination activities. A significant portion of the role, over 50%, is dedicated to direct patient care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing
  • Two (2) years of RN experience in a related area of nursing
  • Holds a current RN compact/multistate license recognized by the NCSBN Compact State or is licensed to practice as an RN in the state the team member is working.

  • Management/supervisory experience preferred
  • Certified in nursing specialty preferred
  • A nursing diploma or an Associate's Degree in Nursing may be considered if the applicant signs a Memorandum of Understanding agreeing to enroll in an accredited BSN or MSN program within one year and obtain a BSN or MSN degree within four years.
  • Team members working in Critical Care Transport are required to have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle record, as defined by the Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Chart.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees patient care activities in a charge nurse capacity to ensure safe and quality patient care.
  • Manages staff allocation, scheduling, and patient assignments.
  • Conducts rounds, investigates and resolves patient care issues.
  • Coordinates admissions, discharges, and transfers, ensuring appropriate transitions of care.
  • Ensures interdepartmental coordination.
  • Provides direct patient care consistent with a clinical registered nurse.
  • Maintains clinical competencies.
  • Performs patient experience activities, including role modeling, staff mentoring, patient rounds, service recovery, and problem resolution.
  • Assists with staff development, focusing on clinical problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Collaborates with clinical nurse educators to support new staff orientation and training.
  • Maintains records for staff competencies, certifications, and licensure.
  • Serves as a professional role model, coach, and resource for employees.
  • Ensures unit compliance with departmental, organizational, safety, regulatory, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Maintains records for regulatory/environmental standards and quality audits.
  • Assists the Nurse Manager with Joint Commission visit preparations.
  • Collaborates with the Nurse Manager on human resources activities, including interviewing, hiring, evaluating, coaching, counseling, and performance management.
  • May assist with payroll processing.
  • Assists the Nurse Manager in maintaining the unit budget through resource allocation and utilization.
  • Shares accountability with the Nurse Manager for achieving unit, department, and organizational goals.
  • Assists in planning, directing, and evaluating unit projects.
  • Develops, submits, implements, and evaluates performance objectives for self and the unit.
  • Works with healthcare team members on activities to improve patient care outcomes.
  • Participates in Nursing and/or hospital committees and work groups.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
