Cleveland Clinic’s J81 is a 25-bed private-room surgical telemetry unit specializing in vascular conditions—such as acute DVT, extremity ischemia, abdominal aortic aneurysm, and peripheral ulcers—and caring for post-operative patients recovering from thrombolytic therapies, amputations, bypasses, and vascular grafts or stenting. Cleveland Clinic’s J8-3 Cardiac VIP unit further expands clinical exposure, caring for high-profile individuals and a wide range of overflow patients—including cardiac, orthopedic, neurology, cancer, and hospice—within its suite-style private rooms. As an Assistant Nurse Manager, you will support both the J81 and J83 nursing units by providing clinical supervision and coordinating daily operations in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams under the direction of the Nurse Manager. In this role, you will work closely with nurses, Clinical Technicians, Assistant Nurse Managers, Health Unit Coordinators, and other medical staff to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. A caregiver in this role works a day/evening rotation from 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. with four weekend shifts within each six-week scheduling period. This role includes variable start times as early as 7:00 a.m. and end times as late as 11:30 p.m.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of Professional Nursing
  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Two years of recent clinical nursing experience
  • Strong demonstrated clinical knowledge and skills

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate unit clinical operations.
  • Provide patient care.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among unit caregivers and other departments/units.
  • Review major operational patient care issues with Nurse Managers.
  • Provide ongoing clinical evaluations of caregivers, counsel caregivers on performance issues, administer initial corrective actions and monitor attendance issues.
  • Interview, select and orient new caregivers.
  • Prepare work schedules to ensure adequate coverage on all shifts.
  • Participate in and support quality improvement projects, outcomes, studies and research initiatives.
  • Assume responsibilities of the Nurse Manager in their absence.
