About The Position

The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) is a Registered Nurse responsible for supervising patient care, clinical personnel, and unit operations. The role oversees administrative and clinical activities in the Critical Care (ICU) unit and works collaboratively with functional leadership to manage daily department operations, including off-shift and weekend supervision of nursing and non-licensed staff. The ANM manages resources, quality improvement, payroll, colleague schedules, and patient throughput to support efficient clinical operations and a safe, therapeutic unit environment. The ANM may work as a staff RN to assist when needed and supports professional development and standards of excellence. The role also participates in and may lead Performance Improvement initiatives. The ANM delivers advanced professional and technical nursing care to patients with real or potential life-threatening illnesses, collaborates with medical staff and other disciplines, and helps ensure the unit functions effectively with minimal direction from the department head. The role supervises and instructs nursing personnel on assigned shifts, ensures hospital policies and unit standards are followed, and provides age- and developmentally appropriate care. The ANM provides input to the Director/CNO regarding hiring, staff performance, and schedules; has authority to transfer, suspend, terminate, or discipline employees; ensures compliance with regulatory agencies, JCAHO, and the Nurse Practice Act; and plans and executes departmental education.
