In collaboration with the nurse manager, this role supervises staff and unit operations and provides direct patient care. The Assistant Nurse Manager supervises care provided by staff to ensure the delivery of safe and quality patient care on the unit and to ensure appropriate standards of professional nursing practice are maintained in the clinical setting. They maintain high visibility to patients/families and staff on the unit, primarily on off-shifts, and resolve problems as needed. This role performs a variety of administrative, human resource, payroll, quality improvement, and unit coordination activities. The position serves in a direct patient care role greater than 50% of the time. This role is within the General Surgery Operating Room at Prisma Health Richland Hospital, a regional academic medical center and hospital with over 125 years of service. The hospital is a Level I Trauma Center and a Magnet-designated hospital. The General Surgery operating rooms care for a diverse patient population across 28 operating rooms, with specialties including ear nose and throat, general/trauma, robotics, surgical oncology, urologic, maxillofacial plastics, ophthalmic, dental, colorectal, and pediatrics. The OR functions in a team environment, encouraging learning specific specialties to better serve patients and create a supportive atmosphere.
