The Assistant Nurse Manager supports the Nurse Manager in cultivating an environment of excellence in patient/family service, staff development, and the application of evidence-based practice to enhance patient care.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Professional Nurse licensure in New York State
  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing
  • 2 Years experience required
  • Clinical certification in the patient population served or nurse leader certification
  • Ability to apply nursing process toward achievement of specific outcomes in an organized fashion to address patient/family satisfaction and quality indicators
  • Evidence of excellent communication (both oral and written), interpersonal, organization, critical thinking, problem solving, and leadership skills
  • Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association
  • Physical stamina, manual dexterity, visual and aural acuity to perform responsibilities
  • Required to handle and move reasonably heavy weight

  • Coordinates care delivery and staff assignments based on patient care needs and clinical competency for optimal unit operation and patient outcomes.
  • Assists in scheduling, payroll, and integrating services across the care continuum.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed to support clinical operations.
  • Provides leadership support for other units within the service.
  • Holds self and others accountable for the delivery of exemplary care in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Assists with maintaining accreditation, regulatory standards, service standards, and policies at all levels.
  • Communicates with clarity and integrity to build trust with all stakeholders.
  • Communicates significant patient care issues, family concerns, safety, risk management concerns, and critical events to leadership, seeking consultation and assistance when indicated, and reporting to the Nurse Manager or Director in a timely manner.
  • Communicates regularly with the Nurse Manager about patient safety, clinical practice, staff performance, and participates in the implementation of unit initiatives.
  • Participates in the drafting of nursing and organizational policy, engaging front-line staff and incorporating shared governance principles.
  • Supports data collection in collaboration with the nurse manager and interprofessional team, analyzing and utilizing data to drive practice changes that integrate quality, safety, patient experience, and productivity metrics.
  • Assists the leadership team in maintaining licenses, certifications, mandated learnings, and content for unit staff.
  • Fosters high reliability concepts within the unit/organizational structure.
  • Fosters a culture of inquiry, innovation, and transformation with a focus on the future.
  • Participates in and fosters staff involvement in nursing research, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice efforts.
  • Leads and supports the development of new insights to complex situations, innovative designs, and programs/processes.
  • Exercises independent judgment in the course of duties including employee discipline, evaluation, approval of time off requests, assigning work, and participating in hiring decisions.
