The 4 North Medical/Surgical Unit at Indian River Hospital sees a diverse population, offering medical attention for GI distress, respiratory issues, seizures and other symptoms. As an Assistant Nurse Manager on this team, you will help patients feel comfortable, at ease and supported while receiving treatment. With an emphasis on professional development and success, you will also encourage caregivers to enhance their skills and the patient experience through improvement initiatives and incentives 70% of your day will consist of administrative responsibilities such as attendance tracking, committee participation, managing caregiver scheduling, engagement retention and recruitment, while the other 30% will be focused on hands-on patient care. Here, you will be a constant resource for bedside caregivers through exemplifying leadership behaviors. A caregiver in this position works days from 6:45AM – 7:15PM, with weekend and holiday requirements.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Two years of recent clinical nursing experience
  • Strong demonstrated clinical knowledge and skills

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate unit clinical operations.
  • Provide effective and efficient patient care to all ages on assigned shifts or as otherwise designated.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among unit caregivers and other departments/units.
  • Ensure continuity of patient care information between shifts.
  • Coordinate patient admitting, discharges, transfers and other operational issues.
  • Review major operational patient care issues with Nurse Managers.
  • Provide ongoing clinical evaluations of caregivers, counsel caregivers on performance issues, administer initial corrective actions and monitor attendance issues.
  • Interview, select and orient new caregivers.
  • Monitor the adherence to EEO/AAP goals and guidelines.
  • Prepare work schedules to ensure adequate coverage on all shifts.
  • Participate in and support quality improvement projects, outcomes, studies and research initiatives.
  • Assist in orienting new personnel, continuing education and in-service educational programs.
  • Assume responsibilities of the Nurse Manager in their absence.
