The Assistant Manager, Patient Care Services, is a direct supervisory leadership role and a key member of the Nursing leadership team. This position involves leading staff members and actively participating in the overall management of the area, development of clinical practice, and provision of patient care. Accountabilities include people leadership, quality, service, compliance, finance, throughput, and scheduling. The Assistant Manager ensures optimal unit performance through effective problem-solving for staff, patients, and families, and by developing and leading assigned staff. They provide feedback and coaching, recognizing contributions and fostering a high-performance culture. Under the guidance of a manager, this role develops, implements, and evaluates systems for cost-effective, quality patient care. The Vanderbilt General Gastroenterology clinic provides care for individuals with chronic digestive problems, focusing on diagnosing complex illnesses and improving quality of life. The Vanderbilt Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinic offers personalized care and management of IBD using various treatments, including functional medicine. Its multidisciplinary team comprises physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, a social worker, and a psychologist, all collaborating to achieve long-term relief, minimize flare-ups, and extend periods of remission for IBD patients.

Responsibilities

  • Under guidance of manager, implements area specific quality planned linked to the organizations goals.
  • Develops, manages and evaluates area based on work team performance.
  • Manages projects/on-going work activities (timelines, work plans, deliverables) and maintains alignment with strategic plan and vision.
  • Acts as clinical leader and facilitates education for staff on clinical standards; routinely provides guidance/coaching to subordinates/peers within clinical specialty(ies).
  • Ensures that clinical assignments are based on patient care needs and demonstrated staff competencies.
