About The Position

This position provides guidance and direction to professional, ancillary, temporary, or intermittent staff within a Primary Care Clinic. The role involves planning and adjusting work schedules, communicating team assignments and projects, and balancing workload among employees based on skill levels and established workflows. The Assistant Nurse Executive assesses team strengths and weaknesses, acts as a coach and facilitator, and ensures the integration of the organization's strategic plan, mission, vision, and values into team strategies and goals. This role also involves coaching teams in problem-solving methods, ensuring timely execution of admissions and transfers, and monitoring all aspects of patient care, including documentation, interventions, and patient teaching. The position advises less experienced staff, identifies educational needs, and arranges for necessary training. The Assistant Nurse Executive prepares reports, monitors work progress, and communicates team accomplishments and challenges to the Nurse Executive. They manage unexpected leave, resolve employee complaints, and collaborate with the Nurse Executive on performance management issues. Additionally, this role communicates team consensus on awards and recognition, assists with conveying Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance projects, and supervises day-to-day work activities, including completing employee performance evaluations and rounding staff. The position ensures compliance with various healthcare regulations and quality programs, fosters professional collaboration, and maintains a professional and caring attitude. Participation in the development and evaluation of standards of care and quality improvement monitoring is expected, as is collaboration with other leads for staff development. The role also includes completing required CMS training and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Four (4) years Registered Nurse experience in department applying for
  • Two (2) years nursing leadership experience.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
  • Valid and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in any U.S. State or Territory.
  • Valid American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Basic Life Support and maintain certification.
  • Valid American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and maintain certification.
  • Valid American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and maintain certification.
  • Valid certification in Moderate Sedation within one (1) month from date of hire and maintain certification.
  • APPLICANT MUST HAVE A VALID, UNRESTRICTED INSURABLE DRIVER’S LICENSE

Responsibilities

  • Serves as coach, facilitator and/or negotiator in coordinating team initiatives and in consensus building activities among team members.
  • Ensures that the organization’s strategic plan, mission, vision and values are communicated to the team and integrated into the team’s strategies, goals, objectives, work plans and work products and services.
  • Coaches the team in the selection and application of appropriate problem solving methods and techniques, provide advice on work methods, practices and procedures, and assist the team and/or individual members in identifying the parameters of a viable solution.
  • Ensures admissions and transfers are executed in a timely manner to assure continuity of patient care and efficiency of admission or transfer process.
  • Accountable to monitor all aspects of patient care such as: Charge Nurse duties, proper documentation of nursing interventions, therapeutic measures administered, patient’s reactions and patient teaching and understanding.
  • Advises/coaches less experienced staff in patient care, work organization and other matters.
  • Identifies educational and training needs of team members and works with teams to accomplish tasks or projects.
  • Provides or arranges for specific administrative or technical education and training necessary for accomplishment of individual team member needs or team needs.
  • Prepare reports and maintain records of work accomplishments and administrative information, as required, and coordinates the preparation, presentation and communication of work-related information to the Nurse Executive.
  • Monitors and reports on the status and progress of work, checking on work in progress and reviewing completed work to see that the Nurse Executive’s instructions on work priorities, methods, deadlines and quality have been met.
  • Reports to the Nurse Executive as needed on team and individual work accomplishments, problems, progress in mastering tasks and work processes, and individual and team training needs.
  • Manages unexpected leave including sick leave and other employee absences in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Resolve simple, informal complaints from employees and refer other complaints which require formal action to the Nurse Executive.
  • Review with Nurse Executive, as requested, performance management issues/problems and to recommend/request related actions, such as: assignments, reassignments, and promotions, tours of duty change, peer reviews, and performance appraisals.
  • Communicate team consensus and recommendations to the Nurse Executive on actions affecting team and individual awards, rewards and recognition.
  • Assists the Nurse Executive with conveying Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance projects to the team and reports to the Nurse Executive team performance and measures.
  • Supervises and directs day to day work activities, completes annual employee performance evaluations and rounding of all staff in collaboration with Nurse Executive.
  • Provides direction through daily huddles, staff and patient rounding, incident reports, direct observation and surveys.
  • Ensures compliance with the hospital wide Quality Assessment/Performance Improvement (QAPI) Program, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services Conditions of Participation, Health Care Financing Administration, and Navajo Area Program requirements and identifies opportunities for client care and client process improvements.
  • Ensures professional collaboration with other departments for developing multi- disciplinary approach to the provision of care.
  • Provides a professional caring attitude when dealing with patients, their families, hospital health care providers and other departments.
  • Ensures consistent, positive support for workplace civility, allowing no behavior that could be interpreted as creating or supporting a hostile work environment.
  • Participates in the development, updating, and evaluating of standards of care and quality improvement monitoring.
  • Collaborates with the Resource Nurse and the Lead Clinical Nurse to develop orientation processes, onboarding, training and development of staff on unit.
  • Completes all yearly Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) required training by the indicated due dates.
  • Assists, promotes, and supports compliance with established CMS standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
