Join the Labor & Delivery team at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where approximately 4,800 babies are delivered each year in a dynamic, high-acuity clinical environment. This role offers the opportunity to provide compassionate, patient- and family-centered care while supporting patients across the full spectrum of labor, delivery, and recovery experiences — from routine births to complex obstetric and medical cases. Working under the direction of the Nursing Director, you will provide clinical leadership and coordination of nursing services, partnering closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, seamless, and high-quality patient care. This role serves as an important liaison across departments, supporting efficient clinical operations, patient flow, and exceptional care experiences for patients and families. About the Unit BIDMC’s Labor & Delivery department is a fast-paced, collaborative environment dedicated to clinical excellence, teamwork, and compassionate care. The unit includes: 14 Labor, Delivery, Recovery (LDR) rooms 3 dedicated obstetric operating rooms 5-bed Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) 8-bay OB/GYN triage area Nurses on the unit care for a diverse patient population and gain experience managing a wide range of obstetric conditions, including diabetes, preeclampsia, placental disorders, and other high-risk pregnancies. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
  • License Registered Nurse required.
  • Certificate 1 Basic Life Support required.
  • 3-5 years related work experience required
  • 0-1 years supervisory/management experience required
  • Demonstrated Leadership Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
  • Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and organizational skills in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across interdisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and relationship-building abilities, including coaching, conflict resolution, and staff support.
  • Broad clinical and operational knowledge with a commitment to patient safety, quality care, and service excellence.
  • Must be competent in caring for young adult, middle adult, and older adult patient populations.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Nursing preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily department operations, including patient flow, acuity, staffing, throughput, and clinical priorities within a fast-paced Labor & Delivery environment.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and support for nursing staff, promoting safe, high-quality, patient-centered care.
  • Support implementation of nursing practice standards, competency development, and clinical practice updates.
  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure seamless coordination of care for laboring, postpartum, and high-risk obstetric patients.
  • Under the direction of the Nursing Director, support hiring, onboarding, scheduling, staffing, payroll, performance evaluations, and employee relations processes for nursing and support staff.
  • Participate in departmental quality, safety, and professional practice initiatives, including Faculty Hours and performance improvement efforts.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and operational support to staff, including coaching, performance management, and involvement in employment-related processes as appropriate.
