About The Position

As an Assistant Night Stock Manager at Hy-Vee, you will play a crucial role in setting department standards for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, sanitation, professional appearance, and overall profitability. You will assist in supervising Night Stock employees, ensuring that trucks are unloaded efficiently and merchandise is stocked and stored in an appropriate and orderly manner. This role requires a strong focus on customer service, teamwork, and operational efficiency during overnight shifts.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Three to five years of similar or related work experience.
  • Ability to solve practical problems with a variety of variables and limited standardization.
  • Ability to interpret instructions.
  • Ability to solve arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to compose original correspondence.
  • Ability to interpret written work instructions.
  • Ability to interview job applicants.
  • Ability to follow technical manuals.
  • Increased contact with people.
  • Must be 18+ years old.
  • Ability to physically perform heavy work, including exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and in excess of 100 pounds of force to move objects.
  • Ability to see detail at near range with or without correction.
  • Ability to perform sedentary work: occasionally lifting or carrying objects of no more than 10 pounds.
  • Ability to occasionally stand or walk, reach, handle, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to work overnight shifts.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Sets department standards for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, sanitation, professional appearance, and overall profitability.
  • Assists in supervising Night Stock employees, assigning work duties, and holding consultations.
  • Ensures trucks are unloaded and merchandise is stocked and stored in an appropriate and orderly manner.
  • Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, creating a positive atmosphere.
  • Learns customer names and addresses them by name whenever possible.
  • Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing items out of reach, and loading/unloading heavy items.
  • Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service.
  • Orders products from the warehouse and other departments, coordinating with assistant managers and assigning duties.
  • Supervises and directs assistant managers, departments, and custodian crews.
  • Reviews and maintains the RPM system, including inventory, reordering triggers, damage removal, and order generation.
  • Unloads trucks, breaks down pallets, and sorts items.
  • Checks in vendor deliveries piece by piece.
  • Supervises drop shipment and direct store deliveries.
  • Writes schedules for the night stock crew, monitoring time-off, vacation, and sick requests.
  • Reviews and monitors weekly overtime hours.
  • Trains new employees on various stocking and customer service procedures.
  • Monitors productivity and conducts individual reviews with crew members.
  • Understands and troubleshoots store equipment, including electrical and cash register systems, coolers, compressors, and display cases.
  • Maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.
  • Adheres to company policies and individual store guidelines.
  • Reports to work when scheduled and on time.
  • Runs back stock and understock, fills holes as needed.
  • Assists with customer service at checkout, including checking, sacking, and carry-outs.
  • Handles cash accountability, day end reports, and register operations.
  • Satisfies customer issues in person and on the phone.
  • Meets with crew members weekly or as needed.
  • Sets and resets new items, tags, and prices as needed.
  • Sets in-store specials and adjusts prices according to supply.
  • Supervises produce and frozen food truck unloading, ensuring proper storage.
  • Assists in other areas of the store as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.
