About The Position

Ferrum College, an NCAA Division II institution, is seeking a motivated, energetic, and passionate Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach. This is a full-time, 12-month position reporting directly to the Head Men’s Basketball Coach. The role involves assisting in evaluating, recruiting, coaching, and mentoring student-athletes to compete at a high level both academically and athletically. The assistant coach will help organize team practices, games, and budgets, and support the head coach's recruitment plan. A key responsibility is ensuring a culture of compliance with all NCAA Division II, Conference Carolinas, and Ferrum College rules and regulations. The position also includes administrative duties as directed by the head coach and the Director of Athletics.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree is required.
  • A current and valid driver’s license is required.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends throughout the year.
  • Commitment to working and teaching within an environment that embraces the development of students around their education, cultural diversity, mental health awareness, and NCAA and Conference Carolinas compliance.

Nice To Haves

  • A master’s degree is preferred.
  • Collegiate playing experience is preferred.
  • Prior coaching experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, recruit, coach, and mentor qualified student-athletes.
  • Prepare the team for a full intercollegiate varsity basketball experience.
  • Execute the head coach’s recruitment plan to ensure a competitive roster.
  • Assist the head coach in creating and maintaining a culture of compliance with NCAA Division II, Conference Carolinas, and Ferrum College rules.
  • Ensure all student-athletes comply with relevant rules and regulations.
  • Travel locally, regionally, and nationally for regular-season and post-season events, meetings, and fundraising/alumni/community events.
  • Assist with student-athlete academic progress and provide support.
  • Direct student-athletes to appropriate academic professionals to ensure academic success.
  • Serve in an administrative capacity as needed and directed by the Director of Athletics.
  • Serve on department and campus-wide committees as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
