About The Position

Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC) is seeking an enthusiastic, driven, and student-focused Assistant Men's Basketball Coach to join one of the premier NJCAA Division I programs in the region. The Cougar Men's Basketball program has built a reputation for competitiveness, player development, academic success, and advancing student-athletes to four-year institutions. Requirements

  • Associate degree required.
  • First Aid and CPR certification required within a reasonable period after hire.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record that does not exclude the driver from coverage under WNCC's vehicle insurance required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in education, sports management, exercise science, kinesiology, recreation, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience coaching, instructing, training, or competing in organized athletics at the high school, collegiate, club, or professional level preferred.
  • Experience mentoring, motivating, and developing individuals from diverse backgrounds preferred.
  • Experience evaluating talent and participating in recruiting activities preferred.
  • Experience organizing events, activities, travel, schedules, or operational logistics preferred.
  • Experience communicating effectively with students, parents, faculty, staff, and community stakeholders preferred.
  • Experience working in an educational environment and supporting student success initiatives preferred.
  • Experience using technology and software applications for communication, scheduling, recruiting, reporting, and program administration preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and conducting practices, competitions, conditioning programs, and skill development activities.
  • Provide individual and team instruction designed to improve student-athlete performance, sportsmanship, and competitive success.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of sport-specific training, conditioning, and performance programs.
  • Support the recruitment, evaluation, retention, and development of student-athletes in accordance with NJCAA, conference, and College policies and procedures.
  • Participate in recruiting activities, including correspondence, communication with prospective student-athletes, evaluation of athletic performance, attendance at recruiting events, and coordination of campus visits.
  • Support student-athlete academic achievement by monitoring academic progress, encouraging utilization of academic support resources, and promoting eligibility and retention.
  • Assist with game-day, match-day, or event operations, including preparation, logistics, equipment management, and coordination with officials, visiting teams, and support personnel.
  • Coordinate and assist with team travel arrangements, including transportation, lodging, itineraries, and related logistics.
  • Assist with the supervision and coordination of student managers and other assigned support personnel.
  • Promote positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, community members, and program supporters.
  • Assist with fundraising initiatives, camps, clinics, community outreach activities, and other program-related events.
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with all applicable College, conference, NJCAA, and departmental policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Represent the College and athletic program in a professional and ethical manner at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
