About The Position

The Assistant Mechanical Planner supports Senior Mechanical Planner in maintenance planning and scheduling activities to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of manufacturing equipment and facilities. Assists Senior Mechanical Planner in planning maintenance work, coordinating resources, maintaining accurate maintenance records, supporting inventory management, and ensuring compliance with site procedures and maintenance workflows. The position works closely with maintenance, engineering, operations, and procurement teams to optimize equipment reliability while supporting Thermo Fisher Scientific's commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or technical certification in Mechanical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Experience supporting maintenance planning, maintenance coordination, or industrial maintenance in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) or equivalent CMMS.
  • Understanding of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance practices.
  • Basic knowledge of Maintenance and Operations Workflow processes, Management of Change (MOC), and maintenance planning principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage changing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a high level of accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain GMP Compliance: Ensure all work orders follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) guidelines.
  • Maintain proficiency in SAP and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to support maintenance planning, scheduling, and work order management.
  • Complete all required training and maintain an up-to-date training profile in SuccessFactors.
  • Participate in daily and weekly maintenance planning and scheduling meetings.
  • Review, prioritize, and develop work orders within the CMMS, ensuring work packages are complete and ready for execution.
  • Ensure compliance with Maintenance and Operations Workflow processes by identifying required labor, materials, tools, equipment, permits, and work instructions before scheduling maintenance activities.
  • Conduct field walkdowns to evaluate equipment conditions and develop detailed corrective and preventive maintenance plans.
  • Coordinate procurement of maintenance materials, equipment, and supplies to support planned work activities.
  • Ensure replacement parts and newly purchased equipment comply with Management of Change (MOC) requirements and Site Specification Standards.
  • Support Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) inventory management by maintaining stock levels and inventory accuracy.
  • Monitor and maintain an effective maintenance backlog to support efficient scheduling and resource utilization.
  • Develop, maintain, and update standard job plans, task lists, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for recurring maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with maintenance coordinators, supervisors, engineers, operations personnel, and craft technicians to establish work priorities and optimize resource allocation.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and special projects assigned by management.
  • Maintain GMP Compliance: Ensure all work orders follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance documentation and planning records to support compliance, reporting, and reliability initiatives.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by supporting overtime requirements, responding to plant callouts, and assisting with emergency maintenance activities as business needs require.
