The New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges is responsible for managing the full life cycle of over 800 bridges and tunnels and over 600 retaining walls, ensuring safety of the public and ensuring mobility for all users. Team members may work on major project designs, oversee construction, oversee maintenance activities, perform engineering reviews and quality assurance tasks on some of the most iconic and complex projects in the City. This role involves performing engineering project management and trades field work under the supervision of senior engineers. Responsibilities include flag repair work, field visits, inspections, and responding to emergencies. The position also requires completing reports and assisting in other office work as directed by engineers. The role is part of the Movable Bridge Electro-Mechanical unit, which maintains, operates, and conducts preventive maintenance (PM) on 23 movable bridges citywide and 4 Fixed East River Bridges. These bridges require continuous monitoring, inspection, and analysis of all electromechanical systems around the clock to preserve on-demand and safe operation for pedestrian, vehicular, and marine traffic. The maintenance program focuses on critical preventive maintenance on various bridges across NYC, performed by contractors and in-house crews.
