This role provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, assisting the Department Manager in presenting the freshest, most innovative, and best-quality products at a competitive retail price. The Assistant Meat Department Manager is accountable to the District Store Director, Assistant Managers Operations, Perishables, Health Wellness Home, and the Meat Department Manager, and supervises Meat Specialists, Meat Wrap Coordinators, and Clerks.

Requirements

  • Must be 18+ years old.
  • Ability to solve practical problems with a variety of variables and limited standardization.
  • Ability to interpret instructions.
  • Ability to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to file, post, and mail materials.
  • Ability to copy data from one record to another.
  • Ability to interview to obtain basic information.
  • Ability to guide people and provide basic direction.
  • Over one year of related work experience preferred.
  • Must be physically able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
  • Must be able to perform climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Daily exposure to dirt, noise, temperature extremes, dampness, vibrations, equipment movement hazards, cleaning chemicals/solvents, and electrical shock.

Responsibilities

  • Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions.
  • Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, learning their names whenever possible.
  • Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing items out of reach, loading/unloading heavy items, and noting customer suggestions.
  • Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service, including taking product orders.
  • Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
  • Ensures department standards are met, reviews product for freshness, and pulls stale dated items.
  • Ensures display case product is rotated and replenished.
  • Prepares cutting lists for case fills.
  • Offers meal solutions and gives preparation advice to customers.
  • Handles and satisfies customer issues.
  • Conducts cutting tests.
  • Orders new items.
  • Ensures proper temperatures and storage procedures are maintained for freshness and to control shrink.
  • Trains new employees.
  • Tenderizes, grinds, and cuts merchandise.
  • Understands and practices proper sanitation procedures, ensuring the work area is clean and neat.
  • Maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.
  • Adheres to company policies and individual store guidelines.
  • Reports to work when scheduled and on time.
  • Assumes management duties in absence of Department Manager.
  • Wraps, weighs, and labels product.
  • Performs cleaning in the department.
  • Provides input on goals and pricing.
  • Assists in other areas of store as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.

Benefits

  • Hourly starting wage of $18.00 to $22.50 depending on experience.
