About The Position

The Assistant Manager will assist the General Manager (GM) in planning and implementing strategies to attract and retain members, ensuring a positive culture aligned with Excel Core Values. This role is accountable for the hiring process, including candidate selection, interviewing, and onboarding documentation. The Assistant Manager will train and develop new team members, ensure certifications and training requirements are met, and counsel and discipline staff performance. They will supervise, inspire, motivate, and coach staff to achieve their best abilities, and support the GM in monitoring club KPI goals and metrics. Additionally, the Assistant Manager will help ensure a clean facility with a great atmosphere and world-class member service, conduct daily club inspections, assign and re-inspect cleaning tasks, and enter work orders into the Computer Maintenance Management System. They will hold team members accountable for company standards, audit daily paperwork, resolve member issues, manage club inventory, and assist with marketing and promotional activities. This role involves creating club schedules, verifying payroll items, ensuring adherence to company policies, and reporting major infractions to HR. The Assistant Manager will also assist with Team Player Assessments, be available for operational questions and emergencies off-shift, and be on call during peak seasons. They will oversee club operations and staff when the GM is unavailable and represent the company at community events. Finally, they will assist the GM in conducting team meetings.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • HS diploma or equivalent required.
  • CPR/AED certification required.
  • Proven ability to lead, encourage, develop, and supervise the work of others.
  • Familiar with Excel mission, values, vision, and culture, as well as the Planet Fitness brand and operational requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability, confidence, and leadership to manage a team.
  • Effective communication skills with internal and external customers.
  • Must be team oriented, motivated, and well organized.
  • Ability to think critically and evaluate solutions to problems proactively.
  • Must have the ability to handle difficult situations and deal with sensitive and highly confidential information.
  • Basic understanding in Microsoft Excel and Word; DataTrak; Workday; Service Channel; and other related applications.

  • Maintain availability off-shift for operational questions and emergencies.
  • Be on call during company Peak Season/Sale Expirations.
  • Oversee club operations and staff when the GM is unavailable.
  • Represent the company at community events and outreach activities.
  • Assist GM with conducting and leading regularly scheduled team meetings.
