About The Position

The Assistant Manager supports and consults with the Store Manager on the store’s overall operations and administrative duties, including determining methods and approaches for achieving store goals. The role requires knowledge of each product area or department and adherence to the policies, procedures, and standards in the visual manual. The Assistant Manager promotes merchandise and delivers outstanding customer service, assumes supervisory control of the store when the Store Manager is absent, and is trained in Store Manager responsibilities. The Assistant Manager helps manage store assets, departmental plans, personnel, inventory, sales, expenses, and profitability. They guide employees and customers, direct staff, keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends, and perform administrative duties as needed. The position also includes supervising employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training, assigning and directing work, and resolving problems.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager on action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and other departmental and store responsibilities.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Assist with personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Maintain quality customer service and provide assistance to customers, including during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards in applicable manuals and communications.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring internal control procedures are accurate and effective, and reporting potential fraud risk to management or appropriate officials.
Perform general administrative duties and train in Store Manager responsibilities.
Supervise employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training employees, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
