About The Position

The Assistant Store Manager will assist in developing, directing, and managing the marketing program for a retail store, aiming to maximize revenue through efficient business practices. This role involves reviewing and analyzing store sales to establish performance standards, identify trends, and determine appropriate actions. A key aspect is developing the sales abilities of disabled workers to prepare them for competitive industry positions and training/motivating Sales Clerks to achieve sales goals and perform duties effectively. The Assistant Store Manager will drive sales through display techniques, product knowledge, and approved sales methods. They will also make routine operational decisions when the Store Manager is unavailable.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent (minimum requirement).
  • At least one-year experience with retail sales or related experience.
  • One-year supervisory experience.

  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and reinforce Associate customer service job requirements.
  • Understand and commit to the Goodwill Mission, communicating it to customers.
  • Maintain up-to-date store appearance and organization.
  • Monitor for suspicious customer or associate behavior and report theft to a supervisor.
  • Promote safe conditions for customers and staff and perform fire safety procedures.
  • Report accidents/incidents and unsafe conditions or actions to a supervisor.
  • Ensure the store premises are clean, neat, and orderly, and that safety practices are observed.
  • Ensure daily inspections are made prior to closing.
  • Keep Store Manager informed of progress and problems.
  • Schedule store associates using approved hours and providing adequate manpower.
  • Display merchandise correctly.
  • Prepare merchandise for proper stock rotation.
  • Operate cash register properly.
  • Prepare required daily sales reports.
  • Make daily bank deposits.
  • Complete directed tasks expeditiously and thoroughly, reporting results.
  • Set an example for subordinates.
  • Conform to Goodwill Personnel Policies and Procedures.
  • Assign workers to jobs adapted to their skills, abilities, and limitations.
  • Delegate duties, responsibility, and authority to Store Clerks when in charge.
  • Keep Store Clerks informed of policy changes and trends.
  • Direct and guide subordinates.
  • Educate the public about Goodwill Industries' purposes.
  • Help customers make selections of desired merchandise.
  • Make customers aware of reasons to buy items (quality, style, usefulness, condition).
  • Complete a minimum of twelve (12) hours of continuing education yearly.
  • Follow direction from the Sales Management Department.
  • Seek guidance when needed.
  • Keep Senior Sales Manager and Director of Retail Operations informed of significant trends and events.
  • Assist in training, delegate duties, responsibilities, and authority to Sales Clerks.
  • Provide supervision, constructive criticism, and praise to Sales Clerks.
  • Stress the importance of proper conduct and appearance to Helper Trainees.
  • Seek ways to improve Helper Trainee work proficiency.
  • Stress the importance of neatness, accuracy, and self-discipline to Helper Trainees.
  • Guide Helper Trainees to conduct themselves in a manner that produces positive public opinion.
  • Help set performance standards and measure effectiveness.
  • Be responsive to customer interests and reactions, taking corrective action promptly.
  • Be careful of public opinion and how the conduct of trainees and store operations affect it.
