About The Position

The Assistant Manager assists and consults with the Store Manager on overall store operations and administrative duties, including determining methods and approaches for accomplishing store goals. The role requires knowledge of each product area or department and adherence to policies, procedures, and standards in the visual manual. The Assistant Manager promotes merchandise and provides outstanding customer service. In the Store Manager’s absence, the Assistant Manager assumes supervisory control of the store and is trained in Store Manager responsibilities. The Assistant Manager supports asset control, sales and merchandising activities, inventory oversight, staffing, and administrative work. The role also supervises employees when the Store Manager is absent, including interviewing and training employees, assigning and directing work, and resolving problems in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team-player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager to establish action plans for departmental and overall store responsibilities, including selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, and scheduling.
Assume responsibility for the entire store when the Store Manager is absent.
Assist with personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments as needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability in all departments.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Maintain quality customer service, including helping customers as they enter the store and assisting multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals, as well as company memos.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring accurate and effective internal controls and informing management or appropriate officials of potential fraud risks.
Perform general administrative duties as needed and learn the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
Supervise employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
