About The Position

The Assistant Manager assists and consults with the Store Manager on overall store operations and administrative duties, including determining methods and approaches for accomplishing store goals. The role requires knowledge of each product area or department and upholding the policies, procedures, and standards in the visual manual. The Assistant Manager promotes merchandise and delivers outstanding customer service, assumes supervisory control of the store when the Store Manager is absent, and is trained in the Store Manager’s responsibilities. The role also supports store asset control, personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation; guides employees and customers across departments; monitors inventory, sales statistics, and expenses; and helps ensure departmental standards, profitability, and quality customer service. The Assistant Manager supervises employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training, directing and assigning work, and resolving problems.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keeping up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager to establish action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and other departmental and store responsibilities.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Assist with personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to help ensure profitability.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Ensure quality customer service is maintained, including helping customers as they enter and serving multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Perform general administrative duties and train in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals, as well as company memos.
Protect company assets and financial information by maintaining accurate and effective internal controls and reporting potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Supervise employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training employees, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
