About The Position

The Assistant Manager supports and consults with the Store Manager on overall store operations and administrative duties, including determining methods and approaches to accomplish store goals. The role requires knowledge of each product area or department, adherence to company policies and standards, and a commitment to outstanding customer service and merchandise sales. The Assistant Manager assumes responsibility for the entire store when the Store Manager is absent and is trained in Store Manager responsibilities. The Assistant Manager helps oversee store assets, personnel, inventory, sales, expenses, merchandising, and daily departmental responsibilities. The role also includes supervising employees in the Store Manager’s absence, providing guidance to employees and customers, and safeguarding company assets and financial information by following internal controls.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager on action plans for store and departmental responsibilities, including selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, and scheduling.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Assist with recruiting, training, and evaluating personnel.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments as needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Ensure quality customer service is maintained, including assisting customers as they enter the store and helping multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards in operations, personnel, visual presentation, and customer service.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring internal control procedures are accurate and effective, and report potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Perform general administrative duties and train in Store Manager responsibilities.
In the Store Manager’s absence, supervise employees in accordance with company policies and applicable laws, including interviewing and training employees, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
