About The Position

The Assistant Manager assists and consults with the Store Manager on the store’s overall operations and administrative duties, including determining methods and approaches to accomplish store goals. The role requires knowledge of each product area or department and adherence to the policies, procedures, and standards in the visual manual. The Assistant Manager promotes merchandise and provides outstanding customer service. In the Store Manager’s absence, the Assistant Manager assumes supervisory control of the entire store and is trained in the Store Manager’s responsibilities. The Assistant Manager supports asset protection, sales, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, personnel recruitment, training, and evaluation. The role also helps guide employees and customers, monitors inventory, sales statistics, and expenses, and helps ensure departmental responsibilities and customer-service standards are met.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keeping up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager to establish action plans for departmental and store responsibilities, including selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, and scheduling.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Assist with recruiting, training, and evaluating personnel.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments as needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Help ensure quality customer service is maintained.
Perform general administrative duties and train in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
Provide extraordinary customer service, including assisting customers as they enter and helping multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals, as well as company memos.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring internal control procedures are accurate and effective and reporting potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Supervise employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training employees, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
