About The Position

The Assistant Manager of Health Wellness Home supervises and coordinates employee activities, ensuring customer needs are met. This role is accountable to the District Store Director and Store Manager and supervises all positions except those specifically designated. The position requires maintaining a positive attitude, fostering a friendly atmosphere, and providing excellent customer service. The Assistant Manager is responsible for upholding Hy-Vee's core values, including honesty, integrity, friendliness, and caring. They will oversee employee training, handle employee issues, and coordinate disciplinary procedures. Additionally, they will assist management with pricing, promotional displays, product quality, and departmental profitability. The role involves ensuring compliance with accounting procedures, overseeing building maintenance and sanitation, and utilizing store technology. Forecasting labor schedules, evaluating employee performance, and enforcing safety procedures are also key responsibilities. The Assistant Manager directs merchandise ordering, ensures compliance with policies and laws, and assists with merchandising and display construction. They will also solve problems affecting job duties and productivity, adhere to company policies, and report to work as scheduled.

Requirements

  • High School or equivalent experience.
  • One year or more of retail experience including performing the duties of an Service Manager.
  • Ability to solve practical problems with a variety of variables and limited standardization.
  • Ability to interpret instructions.
  • Ability to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to interview to obtain basic information.
  • Ability to guide people to provide basic direction.
  • Ability to follow technical manuals.
  • Increased contact with people.
  • Must be able to physically perform medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and 20 pounds of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Has daily contact with customers, employees, suppliers/vendors, and the general public.
  • Has access to confidential information, which may include pricing, sales reports, profit and loss reports, and wages.
  • Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre employment drug screen.

  • Oversees building/ground maintenance and store sanitation and cleanliness.
  • Uses and understands all hardware and software technology in the store.
  • Assists in forecasting and reviewing the store labor schedule.
  • Evaluates employee performance to recommend personnel actions.
  • Trains and enforces safety procedures.
  • Works safely to prevent on-the-job injuries.
  • Directs the ordering of merchandise.
  • Coordinates compliance of employees with established policy/law, security, sales, and record keeping procedures.
  • Assists with replenishing shelf product, designs and constructs displays.
  • Confers with employees and assists in solving problems affecting job duties, productivity, and policies.
  • Adheres to company policies and individual store guidelines.
  • Reports to work when scheduled and works expected number of hours.
  • Determines the motivational needs of employees and provides the appropriate environment.
  • Recruits and interviews job applicants.
  • Stays current with market trends and information.
  • Provides continuous education for existing store employees.
  • Recommends additions, deletions, and shelf allocation of merchandise.
  • Pursues retail educational opportunities and continuing education.
  • Assists in all areas of the store as needed.
  • Works with department heads regarding schedules, labor issues, product purchasing, and merchandising.
  • Sells merchandise to company employees, customers or issues merchandise upon requisition.
  • Handles cash registers.
  • Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.
