About The Position

We are looking for an experienced and reliable Golf Course Foreman/Irrigation Technician to oversee the day-to-day operations of our golf course maintenance team and manage irrigation systems. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership abilities, expertise in irrigation technology, and an in-depth understanding of golf course turf management. This individual will ensure the golf course is in top condition, with special focus on efficient irrigation practices, turf health, and team management. During the winter, the assistant manager will assist in the recreation offices with team supervision, snow removal, and course maintenance.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in golf course maintenance, irrigation systems management, and leadership, with at least 3-5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of turf management practices and horticulture.
  • Expertise in troubleshooting and maintaining irrigation systems, including controllers, pumps, valves, and sprinkler heads.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate, train, and supervise staff.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities for irrigation and course maintenance equipment.
  • Familiarity with modern irrigation technologies, including smart controllers and water-saving techniques.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with both the maintenance team and management.
  • Pesticide Applicator License (preferred, or the ability to obtain one).
  • Irrigation Technician Certification or similar (preferred but not required).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate grounds equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical labor for extended periods.
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, and bend for long periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead a team of greenskeepers and maintenance staff to ensure high standards of course maintenance and supervise and assist the Recreation Department.
  • Assign daily tasks, manage workflow, and ensure efficient use of resources to meet the golf course’s maintenance objectives.
  • Oversee snow removal during winter months and work with contractors and engineering to ensure completion up to resort standards
  • Provide training and guidance to team members on proper golf course maintenance practices and safety procedures.
  • Monitor employee performance, provide feedback, and foster a positive and productive team environment.
  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of the golf course's irrigation system, ensuring proper water coverage and efficiency.
  • Conduct regular checks on irrigation equipment, including controllers, valves, pumps, and sprinkler heads, to identify and resolve any issues.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repairs to prevent water loss or uneven irrigation.
  • Ensure irrigation schedules are optimized based on weather conditions and turf needs, including adjusting systems during the growing season.
  • Monitor water usage and implement water conservation practices to meet sustainability goals.
  • Assist with the maintenance and improvement of greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, and roughs.
  • Work closely with the Director or Golf and Ski and Resort Manager to maintain turf health, including aeration, seeding, fertilization, and pest control.
  • Manage the maintenance and repair of sand traps, bunker rakes, and other course features.
  • Maintain and repair grounds equipment as needed.
  • Enforce safety protocols for equipment operation, chemical handling, and team safety.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations related to pesticide use, water conservation, and waste disposal.
  • Maintain an organized, safe, and clean work environment for the team.
  • Collaborate with the golf course management team to schedule maintenance during non-peak hours to minimize disruptions to golfers.
  • Assist in communicating any planned maintenance work or course closures to golfers.
  • Respond to any requests or concerns regarding course conditions or irrigation from staff or golfers with a positive attitude.
  • Assist in hiring for recreation and golf team.
  • Assist with the performance management of team members.
  • Ensure completion of department biweekly payroll.
