About The Position

The Assistant Manager I supports store operations, customer service, and team development. The role assists the Store Manager with supervising, training, and developing Store Associates; maintaining store standards; and ensuring a positive, safe, and respectful environment for customers and associates. The position also includes routine store upkeep, merchandise handling, administrative tasks, and compliance with company policies and directives. Managers may be required by local authorities to provide background information to obtain licenses for stores selling alcohol or tobacco; failure to comply with or qualify for a required license may result in demotion or separation from employment.

Requirements

Ability to read, interpret, and explain operational directives, such as merchandise schematics.
Ability to lift up to 55 lbs. from floor to above shoulder height and meet the demands of frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, and repetitive lifting.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and written skills.
Ability to work in a high-energy team environment.
Exceptional customer service, organizational, and communication skills.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
May be required to provide detailed background information needed to obtain a local license to sell alcohol or tobacco; failure to comply with or qualify for the license may lead to demotion or separation.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Store management experience in a retail, grocery, or drug store environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist with store functions and day-to-day activities.
Help customers in a positive, approachable manner and address their questions or concerns.
Organize and transfer merchandise from delivery trucks to the stockroom and sales floor as needed, and maintain seasonal areas.
Perform opening and closing procedures as needed.
Process corporate directives, including Pull and Hold/Destroy, Task Compliance, Key Survey information requests, and other communications about store activities.
Maintain the promotional effectiveness of storefront fixtures and displays.
Assist with ordering merchandise, processing damaged merchandise, record keeping (including payroll, scheduling, cash register deposits, and receipts), and loss prevention.
Maintain store areas to company standards, including a well-stocked sales floor and organized stockroom.
Protect and secure company assets, including store cash.
Follow policies, procedures, and safety guidelines, and ensure store associates follow company policies and procedures.
Help the Store Manager supervise, train, and develop Store Associates.
Promote a positive, safe, and respectful environment and maintain professional, friendly interactions with customers, associates, and leaders.
Maintain store cleanliness, including cleaning and restocking bathrooms, sweeping and mopping floors, taking out trash, and keeping all areas neat and presentable.
Perform other duties as assigned.
