The Assistant Manager supports the Branch Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the credit union branch, ensuring exceptional member service, operational efficiency, and compliance with all policies and regulations. This role assists in leading a branch team, promoting credit union products and services, and maintaining a positive, productive branch environment.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working in a financial institution, preferably a credit union.
  • Basic computer and keyboard skills; Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to use hands or finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Possess sufficient manual dexterity to skillfully operate standard office equipment including a computer or typewriter keyboard, 10-key calculator, facsimile machine, photocopier, and telephone.
  • Other demands include talking, handling & reaching, seeing (corrected vision) and hearing in normal range.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • A telephone device to enhance hearing will be provided if needed.
  • Occasional light lifting.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • Periodic inter-branch or interdepartmental access may be required, including for distribution and access to various materials, equipment, meetings, etc.
  • Storage and retrieval of materials, maximum reach required is 84 inches.
  • Mental effort required involving considerable organization, planning and analytical efforts with superior communication.
  • General demands include alertness, memory, observation, empathy, ingenuity, learning ability, problem solving; patience; initiative; objectivity, creativity, speaking ability, reading, and writing ability, judgment, persuasiveness, concentration, flexibility, precision, and auditory discrimination.
  • Minimal discomfort from heat, dust, air conditioning.
  • The noise level is usually moderate, including external road noise.
  • Transport within remote branch and/or main office/facility may be single or multilevel (as required) including a variety of stairways, elevators, etc.
  • Exposure to computers and other electronic equipment.
  • Lunch/break area may be exposed to microwave.
  • The facility is 100% free of tobacco smoke.

Nice To Haves

  • One-year managerial experience preferred.
  • Six months’ experience as a loan interviewer preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of credit union products, lending and regulatory compliance preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Branch Manager with hiring, training, and supervising branch staff.
  • Provide clear guidance and coaching to ensure team members deliver exceptional member experiences.
  • Support employee development by observing performance, offering feedback, and identifying growth opportunities.
  • Manage member accounts, process loans, and handle complex financial transactions.
  • Is well versed in all areas of consumer and business products and services. This includes teller transactions, new accounts, account maintenance, IRA's and lending processes.
  • Handle member complaints or concerns calmly and professionally.
  • Promote and cross-sell credit union products and services to meet member needs and enhance satisfaction.
  • Assist the Branch Manager in overseeing daily branch operations including cash handling, transaction processing, and opening/closing procedures.
  • Help make sure the branch is properly staffed to meet service and operational needs.
  • Enforce security protocols to safeguard members, staff, and assets.
  • Assist the Branch Manager with developing individual sales goals for staff and provide consistent sales coaching.
  • Help achieve credit union goals by meeting or exceeding individual goals.
  • Identify opportunities to deepen member relationships and grow membership.
  • Partner with Branch Manager to keep staff well-informed and engaged in all marketing campaigns, product promotions, and service-related events.
  • Represent the credit union in the community, supporting local partnerships and promoting brand visibility.
  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy and competence in daily transactions, staff support, and operational tasks.

  • Collaborate with the Branch Manager to promote a harmonious work environment
  • Ability to maintain an atmosphere of cooperation and teamwork within the branch.
  • Ensure branch operations comply with all policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate departmental records and support audit and examination processes.
  • Maintain open and timely communication with both senior leadership and branch staff regarding performance, staffing, policies, and operational updates.
  • Maintain regular and consistent office hours in accordance with Red Canoe’s operational standards. Be available to work additional hours including Saturdays, holidays, and other times as business needs require.
  • Manage Saturday branch operations, which may include staff scheduling, and participation in the branch manager rotation, if applicable.
