About The Position

The Assistant Manager I assists the Store Manager with store operations, customer service, and team development. The role supports daily store activities, merchandise flow and presentation, opening and closing procedures, corporate directives, record keeping, loss prevention, asset protection, and store cleanliness. The Assistant Manager helps supervise, train, and develop Store Associates and works to maintain a positive, safe, respectful, and professional environment for customers and employees. Other related duties may be assigned. Managers may be required by the local jurisdiction to provide background information needed to obtain a license to sell alcoholic beverages or tobacco products; failure to comply with or qualify for a required license may result in demotion or separation. The job description is not an employment contract, and employment is at-will.

Requirements

Ability to read, interpret, and explain operational directives, such as merchandise schematics.
Ability to lift up to 55 lbs. from floor to above shoulder height.
Ability to meet the demands of frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, and repetitive lifting.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and written skills.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Store management experience in a retail, grocery, or drug store environment preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist with store functions and day-to-day activities.
Help customers in a positive, approachable manner and address their questions or concerns.
Organize and transfer merchandise from delivery trucks to the stockroom and sales floor as needed, and maintain seasonal areas.
Perform opening and closing procedures as needed.
Process corporate directives, including Pull and Hold/Destroy, Task Compliance, Key Survey information requests, and other store-related communications.
Maintain promotional effectiveness of storefront fixtures and displays.
Assist with ordering merchandise, processing damaged merchandise, record keeping (including payroll, scheduling, and cash register deposits and receipts), and loss prevention.
Maintain the sales floor, stockroom, and other store areas to company standards.
Protect and secure company assets, including store cash.
Follow policies, procedures, and safety guidelines, and ensure store associates do the same.
Help the Store Manager supervise, train, and develop Store Associates.
Maintain a positive, safe, and respectful environment and professional, friendly interactions with customers, associates, and leaders.
Maintain store cleanliness, including cleaning and restocking bathrooms, sweeping and mopping floors, taking out trash, and keeping areas neat and presentable.
Perform other duties as assigned.
