About The Position

The Assistant Manager’s (AM) principal and primary duty is supporting the primary Manager of an airport location — directing, developing, and holding accountable the team. The AM is responsible for personnel management, sales performance, and operational outcomes. As a management role; the AM does not perform the same frontline tasks as the employees they supervise except in genuine operational emergencies where no other coverage is available. The AM serves as the acting Airport Manager in their absence.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license; must meet MVR guidelines — no more than 2 moving violations/at-fault accidents in 3 years; no drug or alcohol driving convictions in 5 years
  • Minimum 2-3 years of supervisory or management experience in a customer-facing, sales-driven environment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, coach, and hold accountable a team of 2 or more employees
  • Strong communication, organizational, and independent decision-making skills
  • Proficiency with rental management systems and business software
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States; company is unable to sponsor work authorization

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; associate degree with significant supervisory experience considered
  • Prior car rental industry experience (Enterprise, Hertz, Avis, National, or similar)
  • Experience with scheduling, workforce management in airport environment
  • Proven track record of revenue growth or customer satisfaction improvement

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily airport location operations and hold accountability for all performance outcomes; primary focus is directing the team rather than performing frontline tasks
  • Act as the Airport Manager in their absence — make independent decisions on staffing, operations, and customer matters
  • Monitor airport location KPIs: fleet utilization, out of service, auction load, recall, revenue, upsell rates, customer satisfaction
  • Lead and champion process improvement efforts to increase efficiency and align operations with business needs
  • Directly supervises all nonexempt airport staff
  • Schedule, coach, and evaluate performance of all team members; administer corrective action and terminations in compliance with internal company policies
  • Promote and support individual goals and development plans for team members
  • Participate in hiring, progressive discipline; or terminations when warranted
  • Approve timecards, overtime, attendance, and time-off requests
  • Coach and motivate the team daily on upselling vehicle upgrades, protection products, fuel options, and add-on services
  • Drive incremental revenue by fostering a sales-focused culture where every customer interaction is an opportunity
  • Track and report incremental revenue performance against airport location targets
  • Review airport location financial data and KPI’s to identify trends and opportunities to improve profitability
  • Develop strategies to grow revenue and control expenses within budget
  • Verify rental agreements reflect correct rates and charges
  • Set the service standard across all airport location touchpoints and model exceptional customer interactions
  • Serve as an escalation point for unresolved customer concerns — resolve with professionalism and urgency
  • Monitor customer satisfaction data and implement corrective actions as needed
  • Ensure all vehicles are clean, fueled, inspected, and ready prior to rental
  • Inspect the ready line; coordinate with maintenance on out-of-service and scheduled maintenance vehicles
  • Maintain accurate vehicle inventory; report overdue or missing vehicles promptly
  • Ensure team adherence to all safety standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant airport location and lot environment
  • Document and report safety incidents, vehicle damage, and policy violations
