About The Position

As an Assistant Maintenance Manager for Quikrete Construction Materials, you will play a vital role within the company, contributing to the overall success and improved operations within Argos Cement. The main objectives of the role are to promote the maintenance management system, maintain and improve plant reliability, ensuring the appropriate application of maintenance procedures, methods, and best practices. You will assist the department by managing performance metrics, conducting analyses, and recommending follow-up actions to optimize resources, increase asset life, and reduce overall costs.

Requirements

  • 5 years’ experience in cement manufacturing or related heavy industry.
  • Prior Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong mechanical background with experience as a skilled tradesperson required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good understanding of units of measure, both metric and standard.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform mathematical functions.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Prior experience in Microsoft Excel and SAP helpful.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and OEM maintenance plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn through formal training and work-related experiences.
  • Motivated with demonstrated ability to work within a team environment and to tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes the maintenance department's daily/weekly work schedule based on information drawn from specific requests, the master preventive maintenance program, inspection-based, and predictive-based work orders.
  • Responsible for screening, prioritizing, and approving work orders based on criticality to the operation, manpower, and downtime availability, while considering the effect on equipment reliability.
  • Initiates job preparation and planning by advising the Maintenance Planner of tasks requiring defined technical specifications, limitations, methods, or procedures before scheduling.
  • Plans, executes, and attends scheduling meetings with other departments to specify downtime requirements, define interaction between operation groups, and communicates daily with the production coordinator for day-to-day requirements.
  • Prepares and tracks job lists for distribution to appropriate Maintenance Supervisors for execution.
  • Ensures planning is complete before scheduling job tasks. Upon completion, responsible for ensuring pertinent information is recorded in equipment history and that work orders are closed and history is entered by Maintenance Supervisors. History must be maintained for analysis purposes (follow-up, upgrade requirements, troubleshooting, budget preparation) in the CMMS and hard copies as necessary.
  • Initiates, authorizes, and schedules routine contract work and services. Responsible for ensuring administrative functions for appropriate cost control are in place, including providing the scope of work to vendors, approving purchase order requisitions, and maintaining a cost control spreadsheet for budget control.
  • Contributes to monitoring and maintaining the Master Preventive Maintenance Schedule by ensuring even distribution of preventive maintenance throughout the year and coordinating the updating of PM checklists as needed due to equipment upgrades and modifications. Also responsible for entering new equipment numbers and ensuring the updating of the equipment parts catalog by the maintenance planner.
  • Works closely with the Associate Manager-Methods regarding the priority and scheduling of activities from the preventive and predictive maintenance program.
  • Maintains the mechanical backlog, ensuring work orders are up-to-date, sufficiently planned, and kept live as required, providing information on status and scheduling requirements.
  • Schedules the daily and weekly workload of the Maintenance Department and defines the overall plant schedule for annual equipment overhauls, coordinating the schedule accordingly. Produces a schedule ensuring mechanical, electrical, production, process, and development requirements fit, defining the critical path. Tracks all departments' tasks during shutdowns to ensure the critical path stays within a fixed duration while meeting the scheduling needs of the mechanical department and daily maintenance of operating equipment. Must have advanced knowledge of and utilize Microsoft Project Scheduler software.
  • Responsible for all aspects of mentoring, coaching, and leadership of a team of 3 direct reports (maintenance supervisors, and engineering/automation team member), including addressing issues such as productivity, safety, training, development, and employee relations.
  • Gives constructive feedback and coaching as required to maintain a high degree of professionalism within the group.
  • Must be fully cognizant of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), with knowledge of the work order tracking system, spare parts catalog, requisitioning and inventory systems, and compatibility with other software packages like Microsoft Project Scheduler.
