First Student is seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Location Manager to support our New Britain, CT operation. In this role, you will work closely with the Location Manager to oversee daily transportation operations, support employees, promote safety, and ensure exceptional service delivery for our customers and communities. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 3–5 years of transportation, logistics, operations, or related experience preferred
  • 2–3 years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Familiarity with basic vehicle maintenance and mechanical processes
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work extended hours when operationally necessary, including occasional weekends
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
  • Ability to travel within the service area as needed

Responsibilities

  • Support the Location Manager in overseeing daily transportation operations
  • Ensure home-to-school routes are covered in a timely and efficient manner
  • Interface with drivers regarding concerns, attendance, performance, and operational issues
  • Investigate customer and client complaints and coordinate resolutions
  • Ensure achievement of on-time performance goals
  • Monitor driver safety and conduct Injury Prevention (IP) contacts to identify and resolve safety concerns
  • Assist with employee coaching, performance management, and development
  • Assist with reviewing and resolving union grievances
  • Ensure dispatch staff assign spare drivers and buses as necessary to maintain service levels
  • Audit and correct athletic trip invoices in accordance with company guidelines
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, retention, and employee engagement initiatives
  • Help maintain compliance with company policies, customer requirements, and safety standards
  • Assist with operational planning and problem resolution to ensure service excellence
