The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services (DABS) is seeking an Assistant Manager for its store in Draper, Utah. This role involves working closely with the Store Manager to oversee all operations of a State Liquor Store. Requirements

  • Proven management experience in a fast-paced retail environment, with a track record of bringing out the best in employees.
  • 21 years of age or older.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds on a continuous basis.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including various shifts Monday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM.
  • Able to successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Strong personal accountability, work ethic, and a commitment to ensuring customers receive excellent service.
  • Excellent oral expression and comprehension.
  • Ability to give full attention to employees and customers, understand complex inquiries, and communicate direction clearly and professionally.
  • Highly perceptive to team and customer dynamics, allowing you to maintain situational awareness and respond to stressful or fast-paced situations with tact and professionalism.
  • Strong command of the English language, ensuring professional written and verbal communication regarding store policies, emails, and performance evaluations.
  • Ability to use logic, reasoning, and data to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to daily operational challenges.
  • Solid knowledge of retail sales, product presentation, and customer service principles to ensure store standards consistently meet high-quality department expectations.
  • A proactive, helpful attitude focused on supporting your team's needs and actively looking for ways to elevate the guest experience.
  • Work requires physical exertion.
  • May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
  • Extensive standing/walking (approx. 70%/30% of shift).
  • Must lift, pull, push, and carry 50 lbs. frequently.
  • Requires constant balancing, grasping, and finger dexterity.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and seeing.
  • Requires frequent talking, hearing, and hand/wrist/arm use.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in scheduling staff, delegating work assignments, and monitoring team performance.
  • Provide hands-on training, technical assistance, and constructive feedback to employees.
  • Manage store accounts receivable, process and account for payments, and ensure the accuracy of daily receipts and deposits.
  • Maintain employee leave and payroll records.
  • Oversee regular and spot-check inventories of merchandise and equipment.
  • Order, receive, inspect, and store stock to ensure an optimal supply of materials.
  • Verify that cash intake matches sales activity.
  • Drive a culture of superior customer service by helping guests locate and select items.
  • Supervise and process wholesale liquor orders for licensees (clubs, restaurants, and hotels).
  • Maintain situational awareness to proactively resolve potential confrontational issues (such as dealing with intoxicated individuals or shoplifters).
  • Ensure all staff are thoroughly trained to enforce state laws, strictly prohibiting sales to minors.
