About The Position

Control, the mastermind behind SafeHouse, Milwaukee's legendary spy-themed restaurant, is searching for an Assistant Kitchen Manager to help lead culinary operations and support a high-performing kitchen team. For more than 50 years, SafeHouse has been delighting guests with immersive espionage-themed experiences, hidden entrances, secret passages, and unforgettable food and beverage offerings. As Assistant Kitchen Manager, you'll work alongside the Executive Chef and restaurant leadership team to ensure smooth daily operations, maintain food quality standards, develop team members, and deliver exceptional guest experiences. This role is ideal for an experienced kitchen supervisor, lead line cook, sous chef, or emerging restaurant leader looking to take the next step in their management career.

Requirements

  • One to three years of culinary leadership, kitchen supervision, or restaurant management experience in a high-volume environment.
  • Strong knowledge of kitchen operations, food safety, and sanitation practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, coach, and develop team members.
  • Basic understanding of food cost, inventory management, purchasing, and labor controls.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, guest-focused environment.
  • ServSafe Certification, or the ability to obtain certification upon hire.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift, carry, push, or pull products and equipment as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a Lead Cook, Kitchen Supervisor, Sous Chef, or similar leadership role preferred.
  • Experience using scheduling, inventory, or restaurant management systems preferred.
  • culinary education is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support the daily operation of the kitchen and help ensure efficient food production during all service periods.
  • Assist with training, coaching, and development of kitchen team members.
  • Help create staff schedules and monitor labor utilization to support operational goals.
  • Lead shifts and provide direction to team members in the absence of the Kitchen Manager.
  • Ensure food is consistently prepared, plated, and served according to SafeHouse standards.
  • Monitor food quality, portion control, and kitchen execution to maintain guest satisfaction.
  • Assist with inventory management, product ordering, receiving, and stock rotation.
  • Support food and labor cost control initiatives while minimizing waste.
  • Help maintain compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations.
  • Conduct routine kitchen inspections to ensure cleanliness, organization, and safety standards are met.
  • Foster positive communication and teamwork between front-of-house and back-of-house teams.
  • Assist in executing special events, promotions, and high-volume service periods.
  • Address operational challenges and help implement solutions that improve efficiency and team performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
