About The Position

Assists in preparing nutritious and attractive meals for students and staff while maintaining a clean kitchen and cafeteria and observing all Health Department regulations to create a safe and healthy work environment. This role involves supporting the Kitchen Manager, managing inventory, preparing and serving food, ensuring sanitation and safety standards, and complying with federal guidelines for the Child Nutrition Program.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • At least six months related experience and/or training
  • Ability to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR card
  • Possess an Oregon Food Handler's Certificate

Responsibilities

  • Serves as designated back-up for Kitchen Manager, performing computer work and data entry (lunch counts, order processing, deposits, etc.) with speed and accuracy.
  • Computes and maintains accurate inventory and student meal count records.
  • Prepares school meals including participating in the planning, cutting, cooking and preparation of food items.
  • Prepares food for the following day.
  • Serves student meals according to directions given as to prescribed portions.
  • Assists in the maintenance of quality and portion control of all food served.
  • Checks food temperatures to ensure proper standards are being maintained before serving.
  • Operates kitchen equipment including dishwasher, slicer, mixer, etc. while maintaining sanitary specifications.
  • Assists in maintaining proper care of equipment and sanitation of the kitchen.
  • Ensures a safe and clean work area.
  • Shuts off, breaks down, and sanitizes designated areas and items.
  • Checks freezers, refrigerators and dishwashers ensuring proper operating temperature is being maintained and sanitation standards are being upheld.
  • Sets-up, cleans and stores equipment used to serve food.
  • Reports safety and sanitary hazards immediately to supervisor.
  • Maintains a high standard of personal cleanliness and proper grooming as per sanitation code.
  • Follows Federal guidelines for the Child Nutrition Program and assists in ensuring compliance.
  • Assists with the completion of appropriate logs, forms and paperwork, as required.
  • Assists in taking inventory, receiving and verifying supply deliveries, and rotating into existing stock.
