About The Position

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) for Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is an independent oversight body responsible for investigating waste, fraud, and financial mismanagement. The Sexual Allegations Unit (SAU) within the OIG specifically investigates allegations of sexual misconduct by CPS-affiliated adults against CPS students. The Assistant Inspector General, SAU will provide legal counsel and support to this unit, focusing on cases involving sexual abuse or harassment of CPS students. This is a full-time exempt position.

Requirements

Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.
Admission to the Bar.
Minimum of five (5) years of directly related work experience (e.g., investigations, legal practice, clerkships).
Minimum of three (3) years of related post-bar experience.
Ability to write and edit accurate, concise, logical, and analytical reports.
Refined judgment with the ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information.
Analytical and critical thinking skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple deadlines, and work independently.
Interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse constituents.
Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency within six months of hire date and throughout employment (does not apply to temporary/part-time positions, but all employees must be Illinois residents).

Nice To Haves

Illinois Bar Admission.
Professional writing experience (e.g., judicial law clerk, demanding legal writing).
Experience closely editing the written work of others.
Experience in government oversight, criminal/administrative prosecutions, ethics, or labor/employment law.
Experience in sexual misconduct, particularly child sexual abuse or sexual harassment.

Responsibilities

Write and edit investigative summary reports for the Chicago Board of Education.
Supervise, develop, and manage the performance of staff attorneys.
Coordinate with outside law enforcement, CPS’s Law, Safety and Security and Student Protections/Title IX Offices, other departments, and external agencies.
Provide legal counsel, support, and guidance on investigations, including OIG jurisdiction, Title IX, statutes pertaining to sexual misconduct, search and seizure, constitutional issues, and labor/employment issues.
Perform other duties as assigned.
