As an Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager with the Department of Transportation, you will help plan roadway improvements and support daily maintenance activities. This position supports the overall maintenance operations within an assigned portion of Erie County by assisting with planning, supervising, and evaluating a wide range of roadway and bridge activities.

Requirements

  • One year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Coordinator, Roadway Programs Coordinator, or Transportation Construction Manager 1 (Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job titles, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Six years of technical experience in highway maintenance, highway construction, or maintenance of heavy equipment used in highway construction projects; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Able to perform essential job functions.
  • Pass a background investigation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop maintenance programs, estimates, and plans for roadway and bridge needs
  • Guide general and specialized crews in daily maintenance and minor construction work
  • Inspect projects, review practices, and coordinate contract oversight
  • Manage requisitions, monitor permits, and handle materials and equipment requests
  • Assign tasks, review performance, coach employees, and support training and development
  • Work with local representatives to discuss projects and establish priorities
