About The Position

Assistant Headmaster The Assistant Headmaster serves as a vital bridge between the school’s classical vision and its daily execution. This role is primarily responsible for the stewardship of student discipline, the mentorship of faculty in the classical tradition, and the cultivation of a joyful, virtuous school culture. Supporting the Headmaster, the Assistant Headmaster ensures the faithful implementation of a curriculum rooted in the Great Books and the most important ideas from Western Civilization. Moral Character: Cultivating a school climate where the "habit of excellence" and virtue are modeled and expected. Parental Partnership: Engaging parents as the primary educators of their children.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required
  • 5+ years in an educational setting, ideally within a classical or liberal arts environment.
  • 3+ years in a leadership or administrative role involving faculty supervision and mentorship.
  • Proven track record in student character formation and restorative discipline.
  • Experience in budget management and operational oversight.
  • A deep understanding of the classical liberal arts tradition and the ability to articulate this vision to stakeholders.
  • Ability to build high-trust relationships with students, parents, and faculty.
  • Exceptional public speaking and written communication skills; ability to represent the school’s mission to the broader community.
  • Proficiency in interpreting student data, state assessment results, and school policy to improve instructional outcomes.
  • Ability to assist the Headmaster in casting a long-term vision for Founders growth and excellence.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in a liberal arts discipline or Educational Leadership preferred.
  • State teaching or administrator certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise and appraise instructional staff; lead professional development focused on classical methods (Socratic inquiry, narration, etc.).
  • Oversee the student discipline system, ensuring it is formative rather than merely punitive, aiming for the cultivation of self-governance and virtue.
  • Direct daily school operations to ensure a safe, orderly, and beautiful learning environment.
  • Assist in interviewing, hiring, and training staff who are philosophically aligned with the school’s mission.
  • Collaborate with parents and community members to foster a robust school "polis" through events and transparent communication.
  • Ensure all educational programs meet or exceed state standards while maintaining the integrity of the classical model.
