About The Position

Under the supervision of the Head Swim Coach and Aquatics Manager or Assistant Aquatic Manager, the Assistant Coach of the High Blue Hurricanes helps lead swim team practices and supports swimmers in developing competitive swimming skills. This position helps create a fun, positive, and safe environment for youth participating in the High Blue summer swim team. High Blue Hurricanes is part of the South Suburban Swim League.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Knowledge of basic competitive swim strokes and techniques.
  • Ability to assist in teaching and demonstrating swim skills.
  • Ability to work well with children and teens in a team setting.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to follow direction from the Head Coach and aquatics leadership.
  • Ability to maintain a safe and positive aquatic environment.
  • Ability to swim and demonstrate competitive strokes.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the pool deck for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift or move equipment up to approximately 25 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a busy aquatic environment.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous swim team or competitive swimming experience preferred.
  • Experience working with youth preferred.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid certifications preferred or ability to obtain.
  • High school student or graduate preferred.
  • Prior participation on a swim team or swim instruction experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Coach with organizing and leading swim team practices.
  • Help teach and demonstrate proper stroke technique, starts, and turns.
  • Encourage swimmers and help maintain a positive team atmosphere.
  • Assist with organizing swimmers during practices and swim meets.
  • Must be able to attend all scheduled swim meets, practices, and meetings throughout the season.
  • Provide feedback and encouragement to swimmers of all skill levels.
  • Help enforce pool rules and ensure swimmer safety during practices.
  • Assist with team communication and organization as directed by the Head Coach.
  • Support team events, swim meets, and other aquatics programs as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by aquatics leadership.
