About The Position

In collaboration with the hatchery manager, works on developing hatchery goals and establishing a yearly budget. Works collaboratively with the hatchery manager on developing new, and/or modifying current hatchery monitoring programs to maximize hatchability and chick quality, while maintaining budgeted chick cost. Focuses on gaining technical expertise in hatchery management with a full understanding of each production department. Works with the hatchery manager on developing a sound knowledge of chicken incubation and chick quality. In collaboration with the hatchery manager, identify major factors (internal and external) that have a significant effect on hatchability and chick quality. Works with hatchery supervisors to ensure successful implementation of hatchery programs. Oversees daily operation, reviews daily productivity, and evaluates hatchability and chick quality. Reviews, evaluates, and interprets daily hatchery performance of each hatchery department through regular analysis of performance data and metrics. Identifies improvement initiatives and works with the hatchery manager to define clear goals as well as with supervisors to successfully execute. Provides leadership, coaching, and training of hatchery supervisors, and provides performance feed back to them. Ensures that safety programs are fully followed and documented. Drives cross-functional team collaboration; communicates with other Company departments and meets the deadlines for specific reports. Seeks constructive feedback from the grow-out division to ensure full customer satisfaction with chick quality as well as chick delivery. Ensures that all Company policies, procedures, and standards comply with relevant legal requirements; works with hatchery manager to enforce Company policies, procedures, and Company values.

Requirements

  • BS in poultry science, engineering, or business; or equivalent work experience, preferably in the agricultural industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Balanced technical, mechanical, and human resource knowledge.
  • Able to evaluate line employees and exempt employees fairly and objectively.
  • Ability to interface on a daily basis with all support groups or departments.
  • Must adhere to disease control policies.
  • Clean DMV record.
  • Must pass pallet jack training.
  • Ability to operate automation equipment safely and efficiently.
