Requirements

Able to give/receive complex verbal instructions/descriptions to/from supervisors/co-workers/employees concerning store/department policy/procedures and use of equipment.
Work and educational history demonstrating stability.
The ability to read and write English.
Able to read instructions, merchandise labels, warehouse order codes, numbers, reports, printed paper and forms.
Make judgments concerning: the placement of merchandise on the shelf/display, pricing, employee scheduling, ordering of product/supplies, department conditions, hiring/supervision of employees, merchandising plans, departments’ operational policies and procedures and the sales/promotion of merchandise.
Good interpersonal communications.

Prior supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

Greet customers, respond to customer questions/requests/complaints and explain store policies in a courteous manner.
Assist in making recommendations regarding the hiring, firing, discipline, promotion and evaluation of all grocery department personnel.
Assist in orienting/training all new grocery department employees and retrain employees when necessary.
Supervise/order all grocery products and supplies so as to minimize out-of-stocks while maintaining the desired grocery inventory turns.
Supervise/perform preparation of the backroom for receipt of merchandise, checking of the load for shortage/overage, sorting of cases according to aisle or pallet for stocking, stocking of merchandise on shelf, building of displays, and storage of back stock.
Supervise/perform cleaning of store floors, check lanes, carts, restrooms, parking lot and shelves, and safe use of cleaning equipment and chemicals.
Supervise/perform loading of stocking carts/pallets, transportation of cases to the sales floor, matching of the case strip to the shelf tag/stock, placement of merchandise in the designated shelf/display position/area, the "face/front" program for the front row of each display, and the immediate pick up/removal of all broken containers, packing materials/boxes from the sales floor or customers’ pathway.
Supervise/perform the safety procedures used in the operation of the baler, case cutter, pallet jack and forklift, and floor-cleaning equipment.
Supervise/perform the counting and recording of individual items of merchandise for inventory.
Supervise/perform the manual price-marking/labeling of merchandise without a UPC code.
Supervise the movement of damaged/unsalable and "returnable" products from shelves to the backroom, sorting of the materials into bins and the return of damage to the reclaim center.
Supervise/perform the changing of signs, light bulbs, tags and price markers.
Perform miscellaneous tasks assigned by the Grocery manager, substituting for absent workers and performing any additional tasks necessary to provide products and service to customers.
