About The Position

The Assistant Grocery Manager supports the Grocery Manager in overseeing daily grocery department operations, including stocking, inventory control, merchandising, labor execution, and associate supervision. This role helps ensure the grocery department remains fully stocked, well‑organized, customer‑ready, and compliant with company standards. The Assistant Grocery Manager is a hands‑on leader who helps execute daily priorities, supports associate development, and serves as a key operational partner in one of the store’s largest departments.

Requirements

  • Supports and directs grocery clerks under Grocery Manager supervision
  • Makes day‑to‑day operational decisions within assigned responsibilities
  • Acts as coverage support when Grocery Manager is not present
  • Does not independently conduct discipline or terminations

Responsibilities

  • Support daily grocery department operations to meet sales, productivity, and service goals
  • Assist with stocking, facing, rotation, and overall department readiness
  • Ensure shelves, end caps, and promotional displays are full and properly signed
  • Help maintain organized backroom and sales floor conditions
  • Act as Grocery Manager in their absence when assigned
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, and inventory management
  • Support accurate counts, rotation (FIFO), and freshness standards
  • Monitor and help control shrink, damages, and out‑of‑dates
  • Report inventory discrepancies and assist with corrective actions
  • Help maintain proper storage and handling of product
  • Support scheduling and daily labor execution within department needs
  • Assign tasks, follow up on completion, and support productivity
  • Coach grocery clerks on stocking standards, safety, and customer service
  • Reinforce attendance, dress code, and company policies
  • Escalate performance issues to Grocery Manager or store leadership
  • Assist with planogram execution, resets, and seasonal transitions
  • Maintain strong in‑stock and visual presentation standards
  • Support promotional execution and price accuracy
  • Adjust task priorities based on sales trends and traffic
  • Enforce safety practices and safe lifting procedures
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Complete logs, checklists, and required documentation accurately
  • Provide excellent customer service and support associates as needed
  • Address basic customer concerns and escalate when appropriate
  • Maintain a visible presence on the sales floor
  • Support store leadership during peak business hours
