The Assistant Grocery Manager supports the Grocery Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the Grocery Department. This position assists with merchandising, inventory management, associate supervision, customer service, and department profitability. The Assistant Grocery Manager helps ensure the department is well-stocked, organized, and operated efficiently while maintaining a positive shopping experience for customers.

Requirements

  • Supervise associates in the absence of the Grocery Manager.
  • Provide coaching, training, and development to department associates.
  • Assist with scheduling and labor management activities.
  • Promote a positive work environment focused on teamwork, productivity, and customer service.
  • Support department staffing and onboarding efforts as needed.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by addressing customer questions and concerns promptly.
  • Ensure associates provide friendly, helpful, and professional service.
  • Maintain high standards of product availability and department appearance.
  • Resolve customer issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Promote a safe working environment and address safety concerns immediately.
  • Support proper sanitation, stocking, and storage procedures.
  • Ensure safe operation of equipment and adherence to workplace safety practices.
  • Assist in achieving department sales, gross profit, labor, and shrink goals.
  • Monitor department performance metrics and support corrective action plans.
  • Help control expenses while maintaining service and operational standards.
  • Support inventory accuracy and productivity initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing the day-to-day operations of the Grocery Department.
  • Ensure shelves, displays, end caps, and promotional areas are stocked and properly maintained.
  • Support the execution of merchandising plans and company initiatives.
  • Monitor product quality, freshness, and rotation standards.
  • Ensure department conditions meet company cleanliness and presentation standards.
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, and inventory control processes.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels to support sales and minimize out-of-stocks.
  • Monitor product movement and assist in implementing action plans to improve results.
  • Verify pricing accuracy and promotional compliance.
  • Help reduce shrink through proper handling, storage, rotation, and inventory practices.
