About The Position

The Assistant Grocery Manager assists the Grocery Manager in overseeing daily operations of the Grocery department to ensure strong sales performance, effective merchandising, and excellent customer service. This role supports inventory management, labor execution, associate supervision, and compliance with company policies while helping maintain a clean, safe, and fully stocked shopping environment.

Requirements

  • Grocery retail experience, preferably in a lead or supervisory role.
  • Strong organization, merchandising, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to lead by example and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Solid communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexible availability including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and stand for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Assistant Grocery Manager or Lead Clerk experience.
  • Familiarity with ordering systems, inventory control, and planograms.
  • Knowledge of grocery sales metrics and shrink reduction practices.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily Grocery department operations including stocking, rotation, ordering, and merchandising.
  • Ensure shelves are properly stocked, faced, signed, and priced accurately.
  • Maintain department cleanliness, organization, and safety standards.
  • Support opening, closing, and coverage responsibilities as assigned.
  • Support execution of planograms, promotional displays, and seasonal sets.
  • Monitor inventory levels to reduce out-of-stocks, overstock, and shrink.
  • Participate in ordering, receiving, and inventory accuracy processes.
  • Follow proper product rotation and code-date procedures.
  • Provide friendly, responsive, and knowledgeable customer service.
  • Assist with resolving customer questions and concerns.
  • Promote a customer-first culture within the Grocery team.
  • Supervise and support grocery associates during assigned shifts.
  • Train new associates on department standards, procedures, and safety.
  • Communicate expectations clearly and provide feedback.
  • Act as department lead in the absence of the Grocery Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety, and loss prevention practices.
  • Follow and reinforce safe work procedures.
  • Support shrink control and proper merchandise handling.
