About The Position

To assist in the development and maintenance of a successful basketball program. This role involves working positively with student athletes to teach essential athletic skills, proper attitudes for competitive play, and the values of winning gracefully and losing with dignity. The assistant coach will also be responsible for game preparation, positively representing the program to the community, and developing support from players, students, parents, and the community. The position requires working within the guidelines of WIAA, Greater Spokane League, and the Pullman School District, completing required WIAA rules clinics and concussion training, and providing leadership in developmental programs. Coordination of player development and skill levels, cooperation with other school programs, and adjusting the system to available player personnel upon recommendation of the head coach are also key aspects. The role includes helping to coordinate the summer program and possessing and practicing strong interpersonal skills with a wide variety of people. The assistant coach must be a positive team builder who works collaboratively, can meet multiple demands in pressure situations while maintaining high work quality, maintain confidentiality, communicate clearly, and demonstrate professionalism in appearance, actions, decisions, and performance, working with minimal supervision and being flexible.

Requirements

  • Successful competitive playing and/or coaching experience
  • Per WIAA regulations, an assistant coach must be 19 years old
  • Current First Aid/CPR card
  • Pullman School District Type II license, or ability to obtain one upon hire

Nice To Haves

  • College/University training or experience in the activity
  • Coaching experience at the high school level or equivalent

Responsibilities

Benefits

  • Salary: Stipend Position: $5,762-$6,752 per school year
