About The Position

We are looking for positive, goal-driven, car enthusiasts to join our collaborative team who are dedicated to building authentic relationships with our customers. Reporting to the store General Manager, an Assistant Manager is a key member of the store’s leadership team. The AGM is knowledgeable of all facets of the store operations and partners closely with the General Manager to inspire our team, help our customers succeed, and grow the business and profitability. This must be accomplished by consistently executing all key company strategies (Transform DIY, Accelerate DIFM, Availability & Service excellence) in a way that is consistent with Carquest’s core values to Inspire, Serve and Grow.

Requirements

  • 2 - 3 years of prior management experience managing a team in a retail environment
  • History of successful job performance
  • Communicate effectively and build solid relationships with customers, peers, senior leadership (verbally and in writing)
  • Effectively coach and teach Team Members to success.
  • Understand store business operating model. (DIY, DIFM);
  • Working knowledge of automotive systems preferred.
  • Solid delegation skills
  • Possess strong customer service ethic to create superior customer experiences
  • Well organized and manages time effectively with financial and business acumen
  • Demonstrated self-starter and a motivated individual, willing to learn new skills and gain knowledge about all aspects of store operations.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or a related area preferred.
  • Previous work experience in store with progressive responsibilities in leading the day-to-day operations of the store may be substituted for education requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the General Manager in day-to-day store operations.
  • Learns all aspects of store operations and provide day-to-day direction to other store team members.
  • In absence of Store Manager, assumes responsibility for day-to-day activities of the store, such as sales goals, customer service, training, expense controls, conducting store meetings, etc.
  • Maintain security and safety throughout the store at all times; ensures adherence to store safety and security policies by all store team members.
  • If required, uses company vehicle to deliver products and equipment to customers in a safe and courteous manner.
  • Assist the GM in driving commercial and DIY sales; developing the team to a high performing and collaborative levels.
  • Help the store increase business results by exceeding all sales, payroll and profit targets in conformity with company strategy and core values; Ensuring that short and mid-term priorities are set so the store achieves financial targets.
  • Build Customer Loyalty: Greets the customer within 20 feet or 20 seconds of entering the store.
  • Supports sales efforts of the stores full and/or part time outside sales professionals.
  • Maintain high standards of customer service, including prompt handling of all complaints.
  • Keeps current on all required training and supports team members in their training opportunities, ensuring they use the skills immediately in their daily work.
  • Hold TMs accountable for successful outcomes/results.
  • Reviews, understands and follows store procedures, serving as a role model to ensure compliance by all store team members.
  • Perform at the Next Level by stepping up to the General Manager level and ‘owning’ store operations.
  • May be required to mix paint, operate hydraulic hose maker, bench test starters and alternators, press wheel bearings, grind flywheels, machine brake drums and rotors, test/charge batteries and other specialty duties.
  • Monitor and manage inventory to ensure maximum profitability and product availability.
  • Maintain store appearance and merchandising at or above established standards.
  • Ensuring that a culture of mutual respect, high performance, recognition, candid feedback and rewards for performance exist in their store.
  • Ensure TMs have effective resources and efficiently use them to complete their work successfully
  • Monitor all activity in the store and ensure that it is highly productive and drives our key strategies ; Daily store tasks include: Invoice customers; enter customer credits into computer; enter claim file invoices into computer, maintains inventory log sheet. Bills labour-related shop invoices for those stores with a machine shop.
  • Operates all store equipment as needed.
  • Works with store manager to oversee payroll to assure targets are being met.
