Assistant General Manager
About The Position
The Hotel Alex Johnson is seeking an Assistant General Manager to assist the General Manager in overseeing daily resort operations, including food and beverage outlets, hotel operations, guest relations, housekeeping, revenue and expense management, and associate development. The AGM helps direct property operations and supports continual improvement in guest service, employees, sales and marketing, property appearance, and profit and financial control. The role also covers the General Manager’s duties when the General Manager is unavailable. The position is full-time at The Historic Hotel Alex Johnson in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Requirements
- Energetic, self-motivated leadership and a strong work ethic.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Ability to direct and oversee multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work and interact with employees at every level.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Excel and Word.
- Knowledge of property management software systems.
- Local market knowledge and experience is a plus, especially with local, corporate, and group business.

Responsibilities
- Assist the General Manager with day-to-day property operations, including front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, food and beverage, and sales.
- Set goals, motivate and discipline employees, control labor and general expenses, and resolve guest-related issues in accordance with company goals.
- Direct and manage property operations to optimize performance and continually improve guest service, employee outcomes, sales and marketing, property appearance, and financial results.
- Oversee guest service and ensure corrective action is taken to resolve complaints and deliver superior service.
- Work in other areas of the hotel as needed to support operations and perform duties beyond those specifically listed in the job description.
- Perform the General Manager’s duties when the General Manager is unavailable.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs.
