About The Position

As an Assistant General Transportation Manager, you will help lead one of Walmart's critical transportation operations, ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable movement of freight across our supply chain network. In this role, you will partner with transportation and supply chain leaders to drive operational excellence, develop high-performing teams, and deliver results that support our commitment to customers, associates, and communities. You will be responsible for leading large-scale transportation operations, driving continuous improvement, managing financial performance, and fostering a culture centered on safety, engagement, and accountability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Management, Supply Chain, Business Administration, Finance, or related field and 2 years’ experience in a senior management role within an operations, distribution, supply chain, or retail environment OR 4 years’ experience in a senior management role as an operations, distribution, supply chain, or retail environment.
  • Experience leading large teams in transportation, logistics, supply chain, fleet operations, distribution, or related operational environments.
  • Demonstrated success managing safety, service, and operational performance in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen with the ability to leverage data to drive business decisions.
  • Experience leading change, implementing process improvements, and solving complex operational challenges.
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to develop talent, build strong teams, and cultivate a culture of accountability and engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute business plans and operational strategies to achieve transportation goals related to safety, service, productivity, quality, and cost.
  • Drive performance by identifying operational opportunities and implementing improvements that enhance efficiency and network effectiveness.
  • Support large-scale transportation operations by ensuring freight moves safely, accurately, and on time to serve our stores, clubs, and customers.
  • Champion a culture of safety by ensuring compliance with company, transportation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and maintain adherence to transportation, supply chain, and operational policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Develop and support standardized processes, documentation, and best practices that improve operational consistency and performance.
  • Oversee operational expenses and monitor performance against budget goals.
  • Drive asset utilization and resource optimization to maximize efficiency and productivity.
  • Analyze business metrics and transportation performance data to identify trends, solve problems, and improve results.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Walmart Performance System (WPS) principles and structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Implement transportation and supply chain initiatives by utilizing effective change management practices and operational playbooks.
  • Lead root cause analysis efforts and develop sustainable solutions that improve service, safety, and operational performance.
  • Lead, coach, and develop salaried and hourly associates while creating a culture of accountability and growth.
  • Establish performance expectations, provide ongoing feedback, and recognize individual and team accomplishments.
  • Identify and develop future leaders through mentoring, succession planning, and career development opportunities.
  • Foster an inclusive environment where associates feel valued, supported, and empowered to perform at their best.
  • Drive execution of multiple business plans and strategic initiatives across transportation operations.
  • Remove barriers to performance, allocate resources effectively, and adapt plans to meet changing business needs.
  • Collaborate with business partners and stakeholders to ensure alignment on priorities and deliver operational excellence.
  • Build strong relationships with associates, business partners, and stakeholders across the supply chain network.
  • Represent Walmart within local communities by supporting outreach initiatives, charitable activities, and company-sponsored events.
  • Promote Walmart's mission and values while serving as a trusted ambassador for the organization.
