About The Position

Peterson Cat has a need for an Assistant General Counsel at our Hillsboro, OR location. The Assistant General Counsel serves Peterson Holding Company, including its subsidiaries and affiliates, (“the Company”) as in-house counsel and is responsible for providing professional legal advice and representation for operational legal matters, with focus on customer contracts.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate Degree from a fully accredited college in Law approved by the American Bar Association (ABA), admitted and in good standing in Oregon
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of directly related experience in law
  • Admitted to the bar in Oregon.
  • Must maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and satisfactory driving record.
  • A drug screen and background check is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with construction contracts and bidding process is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a legal partner to the Company’s business units, providing legal advice, guidance, and support with a focus on customer contracts, including but not limited to sales and services agreements, purchase orders, construction bids, reseller, and supply agreements.
  • Provide guidance on data privacy, protection laws, and artificial intelligence (AI) governance for contracts and agreements in which the Company is a party.
  • Leverage Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) tools and AI-powered contract review technology to accelerate turnaround times and improve consistency across legal templates.
  • Develop and maintain a contract negotiation playbook, including approved fallback positions, to streamline the sales process.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate customer contracts and other agreements as needed.
  • Perform legal research and advise business units on legal risks, providing actionable, easily understandable guidance.
  • Provide guidance on regulatory compliance requirements, as they relate to supply chain and customer contracts.
  • Manage disputes and resolve customer conflicts through negotiation.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends, provide advice and counsel to leadership, and ensure regulations are complied with and legal rights are acted upon.
  • Manage outside counsel and provide general oversight and organization of their assignments and budget.
  • Maintain regular, punctual, and predictable attendance.
